Care Guide

Lorakivi evening gowns feature delicate fabrics, dimensional embellishments, and structured details that benefit from gentle handling. This guide covers general maintenance steps for formal dresses in our collection. Always check the care label sewn into your specific garment first — it takes priority over anything below.

Before You Do Anything: Find Your Garment's Label

Every Lorakivi dress includes a sewn-in care label, typically located at the inner side seam or beneath the main seam allowance. If the label is missing or unreadable, check the product page for that item or contact us before attempting any cleaning method.

After Wearing: Immediate Post-Event Steps

Formal gowns accumulate invisible body oils, perfume residue, and airborne dust that can dull fabrics over time. After each event:

  • Unfasten any concealed back zippers or lace-up closures to release tension on the fabric.
  • Hang the gown on a padded hanger in a cool, dry area away from direct sunlight.
  • Allow the garment to air out for several hours before storing it in a garment bag or closet.
  • Inspect sequins, beadwork, and appliqués for any loosened threads before the next wear.

Protecting Embellishments and Details

Several styles in our collection incorporate dimensional elements that require specific attention:

Sequins, Beads, and Floral Appliqués

These are typically hand-stitched onto mesh or tulle overlays. Avoid pressing them against hard surfaces, folding them sharply, or pulling at loose threads. If a single sequin or bead begins to lift, stop wearing the garment and seek professional repair rather than attempting to reattach it yourself with adhesive.

Faux Pearls and Crystal-Like Accents

Brooch clusters and shoulder embellishments are set on structured bases. Do not spray perfume, hairspray, or body lotion directly onto these areas — apply them to your skin before dressing and allow them to dry fully.

Gold-Tone Hardware and Concealed Zippers

Hardware accents can be scratched by contact with rough jewelry, belts, or bag straps. When fastening or unfastening a concealed zipper, pull the fabric taut and move the slider slowly to avoid catching adjacent ruching or draping.

Ruching, Draping, and Cascading Ruffles

These structural elements are shaped by internal gathering. Avoid compressing them under heavy items in a closet, and do not attempt to flatten creases with heat unless the care label explicitly permits it.

Spot-Treating Small Marks

If a small stain appears on the lining or an unembellished fabric area:

  1. Blot — do not rub — with a clean, white, lint-free cloth to lift excess liquid.
  2. Dampen a second cloth with cool water and gently blot the affected area from the outside inward.
  3. Let the spot air-dry completely before assessing whether the mark has lifted.

Stop immediately if the stain is on sequins, beads, appliqués, satin-look surfaces, or any area where the fabric's finish might react to moisture. For unknown stains, large spills, or anything on a lined bodice, take the garment to a professional cleaner experienced with formal evening wear.

Storing Between Events

Proper storage preserves shape and protects delicate surfaces:

  • Use a padded or satin-lined hanger that supports the shoulder area without creating point pressure on straps or embellishments.
  • For gowns with floor-length hems, ensure the hem does not drag on the closet floor or fold under the weight of other garments.
  • Keep the garment in a breathable cotton garment bag rather than sealed plastic, which can trap moisture and cause discoloration on satin-look and chiffon fabrics.
  • Avoid wire hangers, which can distort shoulder seams and snag sheer overlays.

When to Seek Professional Help

Contact a specialist cleaner or tailor if you notice:

  • Multiple loose sequins, beads, or appliqué elements
  • A broken or misaligned concealed zipper
  • Staining on satin-look or chiffon panels
  • Distortion in ruching, draping, or structured bodice areas
  • Any damage to lace-up or corset-style back closures

Do not attempt to iron, steam, or machine-clean any Lorakivi gown unless the care label explicitly states otherwise.
